Low-cost for construction	The total cost of ownership is low. Because the client device doesn' t have to execute multimedia applications, it only needs slow CPU and small size of memory. Also, the hard disk is not necessary.
Low-cost for management	All the management works include software installation and upgrade are done in the server. The maintenance and backup of data is performed in the server.
Rapid development	All the multimedia applications of Linux can be used to construct the system. There are a huge number of this kind of free software in Linux.

A PC with dual Intel Xeon 2.4G CPUs, 2GB RAM and 1Gbps network card can be the server of TCMP to support over twenty clients. These users can do the follows simultaneously:

• Playing wave , mpeg movie, and mp3 files
• Viewing flash page
• Executing simulators such as super nintendo emulator
• Singing in a karaoke

TCMP is the only Linux-based thin-client system with complete multimedia functions. It is also the most powerful thin-client multimedia system. According to our experiments, the thin-client system of Microsoft is too weak to support multimedia applications.
